News Release: Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air Response to Proposed Smokefree Legislation

Please see the attached or below for our response to all the latest news going down at the Indiana state house in regards to making Indiana smoke-free.

INDIANAPOLIS – As a coalition representing more than 400 state, local and national public health organizations, the Indiana Campaign for Smokefree Air remains committed to protecting all Hoosier workers from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Our leadership has had the opportunity to meet with several state lawmakers this week, and we commend representatives Eric Turner and Charlie Brown for building bi-partisan support for a strong smokefree law. We know that Reps. Turner, Brown and the other bill sponsors are committed to passing exactly that.

House Bill 1149 represents an honest attempt to move forward, and we recognize it as such. We encourage Reps. Turner, Brown and all of our supporters to protect Hoosier workers and fight against hostile amendments that would reduce the effectiveness of this well-intentioned bill.
